GPX file import: new feture added to race player!

Well, it's been a while since I posted to the blog, but I've been busy adding features and fixing things since then (thanks to Matt and others for pointing out bugs and making suggestions)

The most important new feature is the ability to upload tracks from a GPX file, and then replay these on the track player as if they were uploaded using the gofasthow Android app.

Since many iPhone GPS apps can export files, as can many more sophisticated/accurate gps nav devices, this opens up the gofasthow track player to a much wider audience.

To upload a GPX file, follow these steps:

  1. launch the track player by clicking on any race on the home page
  2. in the track player, click "Login" at the top of the control panel
  3. login with your gofasthow username & password
  4. click the "Upload GPX file" button in the control panel
  5. select your file and click "Upload"
  6. go back to gofasthow.com home page, login and click "My Tracks"

New Android app update (0.6.8) fixes upload issue

If you've experienced problems uploading your tracks from the GoFastHow Android app (error dialog displays a parsing error), then please update your app from the Google Play store.

To get the update, launch the Google Play app on your device, then press the options key, and select Downloads (or My Apps) to see the update button for GoFastHow. Updating will not erase gps data you already have on your device.

Note: This issue exists in versions prior to 0.6.8 (January 12, 2013)

Launch day approaching....

I've been working on my latest software side project for too long without announcing anything officially (except for a few sailor friends). As a software developer, you know a project is never truly finished, and there comes a time where it must be released to the wild, to take flight and soar, or flutter unceremoniously and awkwardly to earth. That time is rapidly approaching...a matter of days in fact.

Despite a few existing "features" which need a good dose of "bug repellant" and all the features I still would like to add (to the website, the Android app and the race player app), that rendevouz with destiny will not be denied.

Yes, it is a "minimal viable product", but a very usable one, none the less.
